Camp 22 update

Although this site does not focus on human rights issues, I wanted to quickly point out a recent publication that is the result of a collaboration between Joseph Bermudez (Digital Globe and author of The Armed Forces of North Korea and KPA Jounrnal) and The Committee for Human Rights in North Korea (HRNK). It offers new satellite imagery and analysis of the DPRK’s camp 22.

You can read the report and press release here.

You can see the imagery here.

I am usually skeptical of satellite imagery, especially since the Iraq fiasco. Nevertheless, it is quite clear that Camp 22 exists and there is still activity there, despite claims to the contrary and the lack of detailed evidence that satellite imagery provides.

I disagree with you, and wonder whether the discount placed on information coming from inside North Korean sources is now actively inhibiting our capacity to understand the country.
